The slides that incorporate the weaknesses and strengths of the site are a really good idea to see where you need to go with the project. I believe seeing a few of these in a diagram might make the ideas even more solid. One of your big ideas seems to be extending green space into mantua and towards the city. I think a diagram showing where these spaces might be with a montage to explain your diagram would be very helpful.
Like I said at the review, I really love how you have the idea to create a template for urban infill. I also like your proposal for a new Mantua Corridor. You have a lot of really great ideas, but I am interesting in seeing how you use your proposed topic of energy to inform the design.
Neil, it was great that you had so many different ideas for this site, and that you analyzed a lot of systems. As we said in class, you need to choose one, and you did, energy! I’m curious how you will move forward with this and also how you are going to incorporate the idea of energy for all aspects of your project. Your idea for turning Mantua Avenue into a street similar to Lancaster was clear and I believe would be extremely beneficial for the site in terms of economy and popularity. Maybe you could work this into your idea for energy somehow? Also along the lines of energy, have you considered adding unconventional energy producing elements? Such as floors people step on, or exercise machines/playgrounds that produce energy from a push or pull motion? I think it’d be interesting to explore these capabilities and would extend your idea of energy into all programs of the site.

Although I assume you mean electricity, I begin to wonder if the word “energy” could be used to represent more of a social standpoint. There a festivals and events that everyone in Philadelphia enjoys, so maybe these proposed green pathways can be used to connect the Mantua corridor into the cities more established amenities. As you have stated, the Mantua corridor is a newly introduced plan, which means it has yet to developed a prominent relationship with the communities located south toward University city or North toward Bala Cynwood.
You have a very thorough and broad site analysis with many end goals in mind for your project which isnt a bad thing, but I think focusing and honing in on what concept is driving your project will be very exciting. In class you mentioned energy which is an exciting medium to do so and I’m looking forward to continued research and design strategies developed around that.
I think as you start to focus on energy don’t forget about sustainable ways to produce energy, how energy moves through the gardens and crops, the importance on energy, and how you can utilize energy from the train.
