After working on several massing models, I have settled on a concept that allows for the greatest flexibility. This concept is based on a larger structural module of 29′ X 29′ (below) and smaller plugin modules of 6′.
The larger module is based partly on the typical width of two row homes, but also works out to be an approximate depth of the typical row home.

Creating a structural module based on standard row home width allows for a gradual construction of the canopy as space/funds become available. This also allows for the most flexibility of the canopy system as it is rolled out across the neighborhood, and possibly into the surrounding city.
By creating a system that accepts smaller plugin modules, the system is able to adapt to any change in needs over time. Initially, 3 plugin modules will be explored (Solar PV, Garden and Skylight). I will explore additional “Plugin” options as determined by the needs of adjacent functions.
