Strategies
01 Create Connections to Greenspace

Connect Fairmount park system to Mantua residents and develop opportunities to connect to University City and Beyond.
02 Create Connections to Lancaster Ave. Corridor

Through planned development along Mantua Ave., connect to revitalization projects happening along Lancaster Ave. Corridor.
03 Create Green Pathways through Community

Develop a “Green Pathway” on existing abandoned rail yard and increase value of property bordering train route.
04 Fill Gaps Between Amenities

Encourage development of new amenities (Markets, Shops, Restaurants, Etc.) and fill the gaps between existing site amenities.
I really like your proposition of a new Mantua Corridor. It is very easily associated with your philosophy of energy flow. Maybe for future diagrams, translate the energy from the Lancaster Avenue corridor in the same way you translated the energy flow from the train corridors in Week 3, and how you envision this energy transitioning over your 5-year and 10-year forecasts.

I think the mantua corridor is successful, I pretty much thought of the same thing too, but your first diagram with the large green arrow is very vague… what are you proposing ?

The Mantua corridor is a very successful idea to think about. While thinking about it, I assume you are planning to fill out the amenity gaps with some form of business in your development areas. One thing to think about is the future outlook for Lancaster Ave since you are relating to it. There are numerous business development plans to Lancaster Ave that you may be able to tap into.

The process in these diagrams is very clear and concise. I really can follow your approach to the site on various scales and the idea of creating a network across the site. It’d be interesting to hear your ideas on “filling the gaps” between the spaces and how that ties into your concept on and off the site.

Green connection to Fairmount: Bold diagram, clear intention. Consider how this diagram starts to prioritize certain blocks or areas for this park extension south (ie. zone of land north of zoo bound by 38th st on western edge). It could be a series of green fingers/strands that weave their way downhill to University City.
Mantua Corridor connection: Also bold and clear. Why is the direction of flow one direction only? Wouldn’t these two lines of energy (lancaster and rail corridor) equally support one another? Or perhaps there are multiple types of energy flows (people, transit, energy, etc.) that behave differently within this exchange of energy? Would be interesting to see a series of these flows broken out into a series of isolated layers/diagrams.
Green Pathways/Green Valleys: Interesting – accentuate the nature of these economic/commercial lines that “spur” into the surrounding context. Could be more aggressive than that what is currently expressed. Confused a little bybounded nature of “new parks” in western neighborhood – why are these critical locations, how are they functioning/supporting program, and what are they connecting to?
