Updated model based on Site Iterations. This concept makes use of a modular grid structure (29′ X 28′) that can be built over time to create a canopy that circles the block, or one that is interrupted to create gathering spaces.

The scheme above allows for pathways through the interior of the city block, and gathering spaces at relevant nodes.

This is great, the succession of spaces your creating through porous spaces on the urban edge create a great opportunity for “interior” outdoor spaces.I think the next step would be to program these interior spaces as well as put them into context in terms of the local energy and who are the occupants. How does the energy absorbed or created influence the program?

Your ideas are very clear through your models and the quick diagram that you made with the pedestrian corridor. Your models are very well made and are a great use of the laser cutter. Do you envision this canopy, other than the amphitheater, to be traversed everywhere? What existing conditions does this canopy rest on top of?

I love the way you did some of these sketches over your models.Would all the sloped areas be communal amphitheaters? The models look very sharp. What are the building becoming that have all the glass? Is there a certain area of the site where you are looking to put retail space or will this dabble throughout the space?
